John Hopkins is the CEO of The Institute for Advanced Composites Manufacturing Innovation. He leads the US Department of Energy supported Manufacturing USA composites institute which manages a consortium of 140+ members, provides leadership in domestic production research and development knowledge, and catalyzes economic development across the US. Established in 2015, this institute has been supported by $70 million of funding from the US Department of Energy’s Advanced Manufacturing Office, and over $120 million from other public and private partners.
Prior to his role with IACMI, John served as Director of Strategic Operations at the University of Tennessee Office of the Executive Vice President where he led several statewide initiatives, including a National Science Foundation program, TN-SCORE, as well as related K-12 STEM outreach. John also served in several leadership roles at the UT Research Foundation, and as a faculty member at the University of Tennessee Space Institute. John has authored 50 technical papers and named inventor on 11 US patents. John earned his PhD from the University of Tennessee while supporting flight experiments on the First International Microgravity Laboratory aboard Discovery, STS-42, as a NASA pre-doctoral fellow. He has an MBA from Vanderbilt University’s Owen Graduate School of Management.
